How many times do you find yourself watching TV or reading a magazine and said to yourself: “I wish my hair looked like that!”. We have all had one of those moments of yearning for a long, glossy head of hair (myself included), but never knew how to achieve it. So here are a few tips that you can do to achieve hair that Rapunzel will be envious of.
“On your marks. Get set. GO!’
The first step to achieving luxurious locks is maintaining your body’s well-being. The condition of your body is directly reflected in your hair and even a small bout of illness can leave your hair looking limp and lifeless. So to maintain your mane, follow a regular exercise regime which will promote blood circulation within your body and ensuring that all the necessary nutrients will reach your roots so your hair can repair itself. Also, keep an eye on your diet – stay hydrated and eat plenty of fresh vegetables, by doing this you will be on the foolproof way to having the healthy hair you have always dreamed of.
“Step away from the kettle”.
If you are a coffee-addict, you might want to take a deep breath before reading this paragraph. Coffee and tea are powerful stimulants which increase the rate of which your nervous, respiratory and cardiovascular systems function, which, in turn causes your cells to excrete water and important minerals faster than the cell is able to absorb the nutrients. So by cutting down your intake, you will allow your body to function at its own pace and to fully absorb all the essential nutrients it needs to function properly.
“In sickness and in health.”
As mentioned earlier, any sickness you may have can affect the health of your hair. Certain medications can have a similar effect. If you experience any sudden or significant hair loss or thinning, consult with a doctor as soon as you can for the issue to be diagnosed.
“Washing is good for your hair, right?”
Yes it is, but how often you wash it is another story. Ideally you should only be washing your hair once a week. If you wash your hair every day, this may come as a shock. Truth is, if you HAVE to wash you hair everyday, then you are using a shampoo that is too harsh for your hair or a conditioner that is too heavy. Your hair needs its natural oils, but if you are frequently washing it then you are stripping away those oils. Try not wash your hair for a day longer than you usually would e.g. if you wash it everyday, try every second day or if you wash it every second day, try every three days. Initially, your hair will be quite greasy but it will settle down eventually and then you can try skip another day. If you use a lot of styling products, this will definitely weigh down your hair and make it feel greasy.
“If you can’t handle the heat, avoid it”.
Nowadays, our curling irons, straighteners and hair dryers are a necessity, but it comes at a price. To keep your hair healthy, invest in a good quality heat protecting spray, this will stop your straightener from scorching your hair. Also, try only use one styling device on your hair a day e.g. instead of blow drying and then curling or straightening it, try blow waving your hair straight when its wet or let your hair air dry then use whatever you need.
That wraps up our tips for this week’s post, watch this space for more tricks on how to care for your hair without breaking the bank.
